For hundreds of years before the advent of our modern age, a squaw (an Indian woman) was charged almost solely with the care of children and the dwelling. To carry their children with them, the Indians invented a baby sling, called a Papoose. This allowed mothers to always have their children with them during daily work, or when the tribe was moving to new hunting grounds.
