The latest generation of USB flash drives with the fast USB 3.0 standard. Particularly suitable for the very fast transfer of high data volumes. The most important improvement to the third USB specification is the higher speed: thanks to the super speed mode, data is meant to be transmitted at a gross rate of up to 5 Gigabit per second – so far the theoretical USB maximum was 480 Mbps, even firewire and E-SATA are significantly slower. However, new cables and plugs are required. However, these remain backwards compatible, so the slower modes and corresponding devices can still be used. Moreover, USB 3.0 is more energy efficient than the older generations.
