Iittala Kastehelmi votive tea light holders first introduced in 1964 are now legendary. If they were still a real revolution in glass manufacturing, they have now become a classic. Iittala Kastehelmi votives combine two elements: water and fire. The word Kastehelmi means Dew Drops in Finnish. The hot flame and cool dew drops create wonderful reflections emanating from this mood light. The Kastehelmi votive lanterns were already one of the most successful series of Iittala, until production was discontinued in 1988. Oiva Toikka tried to find a method in the 1960s to hide the seams in pressed glass. So he came up with the idea of placing small glass drops on the seams. His experiment evolved into a completely novel design reissued by Iittala.
