Slugs and snails are naturally attracted to decaying plant material which is a source of food for them. Beer (and other alcoholic drinks) seems to cause the same response due to the presence of yeast. Once the slug or snail makes their way into the trap they often slip into the liquid and are unable to get out, where they eventually drown in the beer (what a way to go!)
Will beer traps completely eliminate slugs & snails from your place of residence? Probably not…
