The fish shape makes an easy to hold handle, ideal for children and school percussion kits. The guiro produces a bright sound and comes complete with an easy grip wooden scraper. This instrument is played by running the scraper across the serrated wooden surface. The sound then echoes in the hollow body of the guiro and projects through the holes.
