When work began on the US Interstate Highway System in 1956, it spelled the end of an era for the country’s passenger railroads. But during the first half of the twentieth century, trains were the mainstay of American long-distance travel. Amtrak was still a long way off, and numerous private rail companies served different regions of the nation. In their competition to attract riders, the various companies hired accomplished artists to create posters conveying the excitement of trains and the beauty of the destinations they reached. This calendar celebrates the glory days of US rail travel with reproductions of a dozen posters tempting travelers to routes all across the country. All aboard! All of Pomegranate’s calendars are printed with soy-based inks on FSC® certified paper, which means the paper has been certified by the Forest Stewardship Council® and manufactured by an FSC certified printer. FSC certification promotes responsible forest management by ensuring that forestry practices are environmentally responsible, socially equitable, and economically viable. FSC license code FSC N001864.
