Hank Brian Marvin (Brian Robson Rankin) born October 28th 1941 in Newcastle Upon Tyne is a multi-instrumentalist, vocalist and songwriter. He is best known as lead guitarist for The Shadows who were originally the backing band for Cliff Richard.
Marvin was inspired to take up playing the guitar in the 50s after hearing Buddy Holly on the radio. It would prove to be a very good decision as nearly 60 years later he is still recording and touring the world’s stages with his guitar.
It was largely due to Hank Marvin’s use of reputedly the very first Guitar imported into the U.K. with countless other guitar players inspired to seek out the same guitar. Legend has it that it was Cliff Richard who brought the guitar from the U.S. for his Shadows lead guitarist.
Even though the guitar is the guitar that Marvin is most associated with he also had a fondness for Burns guitars, primarily their Bison model and they eventually acknowledged his patronage of their instruments by launching the Burns Marvin Signature model. Burns/Baldwin originally began producing the Burns Marvin model in 1967 and it came in three eye catching colours, Green, Salmon Pink and White.
The Burns Marvin is quite an impressive and visually striking instrument and it came fitted with a trio of Rez-O-Matic pickups, which give the guitar a very round and clear sounding response, ideal for Marvin’s distinctive clean and echo laden melody lines.
Burns made the neck profile and scale length very close to that of a guitar.
This is an unlicensed replica guitar.
