Basswood for carving is light-colored, with a matte sheen that ranges from white to yellowish. It is evenly dense, sticky, not very elastic, and not very strong. Basswood carving blanks are easy to carve and cut, and when exposed to sunlight, this wood turns yellow.
Cherry Wood Block
Cherry wood is characterized by its reddish-brown core. When exposed to sunlight, the wood fades and becomes lighter. The texture of cherry wood is uniform and smooth, with an atlas-like structure and straight fibers. Cherry wood is soft, easily bent, and has medium density and impact resistance.
Mulberry Wood Block
Mulberry wood is considered a valuable species of wood. It is part of the hardwood family and has a pleasant golden-yellow color. It’s very comfortable to work with and is easily sanded and polished.
European Walnut Wood Block
Walnut blocks can include the brown color of the central part of the wood and the beige color of the wood closer to the bark. It polishes perfectly and is resistant to chipping. European walnut is considered to be a hardwood.
