Blagdon’s Duckweed Buster prevents duckweed from taking up the nutrients it needs to grow, therefore causing it to die back. Like all vegetative treatments, we recommend that as much duckweed as possible is removed manually prior to treatment, as this will avoid having a pond full of dead rotting duckweed once the treatment has done its job.  Add 1 x 25ml measure for every 450 litres (100 gals) of pond water. We recommend adding Duckweed Buster to a bucket of pond water and then distribute this evenly over the ponds surfacer 7 days add a further dose of 1 x 10ml for every 450 litres (100 gals) to a bucket of pond water and distribute this evenly over the surface. Repeat the dose weekly until the duckweed is no longer visible. Persistence is key!Duckweed is a small, leafed plant which will grow to carpet the surface of the pond. In extreme cases duckweed can grow so rapidly that it effectively smothers the pond within a few days, reducing oxygen and light levels. Lack of light and oxygenated water can often lead to dead fish and plants. There are several factors that can cause excessive growth of Duck Weed and although an effective treatment will kill the plant, the causative factors must be addressed to prevent further outbreaksss sunlight can be a major contributing factor, so you may benefit from adding floating plants – e.g. Lily’s and water soldier – to cover up to 50% of the pond surface area. Alternatively, you could use planting around the pond to create areas of shade across your pond. You do not want to completely shade the pond as this will discourage good plant growth, however finding a balance could reduce the recurrence of duckweedher contributing factor in causing a duckweed outbreak can be that too many nutrients are available.  It is important to add healthy fast-growing plants and regularly remove waste and sludge from the pond.
