  • GREAT BACKUP FIRE STARTER: These Brass striker wheels fit places larger Ferro Rods and lighters won’t and are easily attached to necklace chains, keyrings, and small survival kit tins.
  • HOW IT WORKS: The striker wheels use a similar mechanism as in most flint lighters, such as the Zippo lighter, but without the wick and case. The flints can be replaced and adjusted by tightening the internal spring.
  • USING THE STRIKERS: These striker wheels are extremely small, and don’t produce the same size sparks as a larger Ferro Rod. But with proper preparation, and some good tinder they won’t fail you in getting a fire started!
  • WORKS WHEN WET: Like Ferro Rods, they will also work when wet and will provide enough sparks to ignite numerous fires.
  • WHAT IS CHAR CLOTH? When using the striker wheels we recommend using char cloth. Char cloth is easily made by slowly burning cotton fabric in a low-oxygen environment such as a tin, producing a charred material. Char cloth catches sparks especially easily and burns extremely hot at around 180-200 degrees.
  • USING THE CHAR CLOTH: Start by striking flint onto the char cloth. Once a spark is caught on the char cloth, it will begin to glow. Then, transfer the glowing char cloth into a tinder bundle made of dry, fibrous materials like grass, leaves, or bark. Gently blow on the bundle until the tinder ignites.
  • THE MATERIALS: The striker wheels are made from genuine Brass. We have included two spare flints and two pieces of char cloth.
