Product Description
The grey seal differs significantly from the harbour seal and is characterized by a bulkier stature. Also, while most seals have a rounded head, grey seals have a more pointed head. Baby grey seals are born with white hair, which is replaced after about five weeks by normal fur. Young grey seals wander widely, but always return back to their original sites. They can dive for up to 20 minutes and reach depths of 140 meters. The grey seal hunts for fish and every adult needs about ten kilos per day. They eat herring, mackerel, cod, sole and salmon. During the breeding season, grey seals get together in small colonies. Each colony is composed of an average of six females and one male. Fights between rival males are not as threatening as they look and should be seen more as a ritualistic subjugation of lower ranking males.
