Can you guess where the sea turtle lives? That is correct – in the water! Since it is their habitat, they can swim very well. In order to breathe, the sea turtles stretch their heads out of the water and some can also partially breathe through their skin. Some turtles stay under the ice for weeks during the winter. The female goes on land to give birth. There she digs a deep hole into which she lays the eggs. Then it is filled in. The sun incubates the eggs. When the babies hatch, they immediately run to the sea so they won’t get eaten by birds. There are seven different species of sea turtles. Depending on the type, they are different in size, weight and age. Also, their appearance is very different. The sea turtles feed on sea grass, algae, seaweed, jellyfish, sponges, small fish, snails and squids.
