$35.99
- Maori wool is one of the best wools for needle felting out there. It comes as carded wool batting where fibres are already mixed, making it easier to felt. This wool has a short staple length making it a great, bulky carded wool well suited for 3D needle felting projects. Maori is a blend of sheep wools from New Zealand. Thickness is approx. 27 microns. This wool comes in a brilliant range of colours and is very easy to use. Carded Maori wool can be used as core wool and as finishing wool.
- Begin by roughly shaping wool as required. The more you compress your wool the less time it will take to needle felt. Place your wool onto the surface. Using the coarse needle, repeatedly insert it into the wool, shaping as you go. Keep peeling your work off the foam as you go so it doesn’t get stuck. When it becomes difficult to insert the needle, swap for a finer one and continue until your work is a firm shape. This carded NZ wool can also be used for wet felting and spinning.
- Maori as a felting wool blend was created in 2007 by DHG. This wool is MULESING FREE, the dyeing complies with Oeko-Tex Standard 100 and is done in DHG dyeing house which is GOTS 5.0 and GRS certified. IMPORTANT note, while every effort is made to represent colours accurately, your screen/monitor settings will affect how it appears to you. *These wools are carefully washed before carding, however grass bits cannot always be completely removed. This is perfectly acceptable for a natural product
- To start needle felting you only need 3 things: a special felting needle with barbs, some wool and a surface to stab into. 36 triang and 38 star will work well with this wool. 40 or 42 can be used for finer detail but are not necessary. This Maori wool is a lovely wool to work with. Please don’t start with Merino wool tops as these are hard to work with and can put you off. As a surface you can use any cushion or a sponge. You can use an old piece of cloth on the top to protect your surface.
