Since July 2014, the classic celluloid balls have been replaced by the new plastic balls in ITTF tournaments and then gradually into the most high-level leagues. Plastic balls are environmentally friendly and have comparable playing properties to conventional celluloid balls. They are distinguished from standard balls, by the imprint “40+”.
