Using and Caring for Camping Cooking Set Before first using, handwash the nonstick pan with water, after it’s dry, rub a thin coating of vegetable oil over the cooking surface, which will condition and protect the cooking surface. Use only safe utensils: plastic (with no rough edges), wooden spoons or heat-resistant silicone utensils, spoons and spatulas. Always use only low to moderate heat to cook. Use softer detergents, a plastic scrub, sponge or dishcloth to wash the pan.
