The Sherman is the most popular American tank produced during the Second World War: Nearly 55,000 copies are produced in very varied versions. The medium tank M4 Sherman formed the backbone of the Allied armoured force. The five main variants of M4 to M4A4 differ mainly in the type of body, the barrel, and the engine used.
