At the heart of quality craftsmanship lies the rich heritage of Marples woodworking tools. Originating in 1828 in Sheffield, England, the Marples brand has consistently stood for superior performance and ultimate precision in fine woodworking. Marples is traditionally famous for chisels and synonymous with high-quality woodworking tools. The new range of Circular Saw Blades made in Udine, Italy uses high quality manufacturing capabilities and processes giving a range fitting of the Marples brand. History of Marples:
1800s — W. Marples & Sons began as an ice skate manufacturer in the early 1800s. The company was known for making high-quality steel blades that would retain a sharp edge over a long period of time. At the urging of loyal early customers, William Marples & Sons expanded operations in 1828 to include a wide array of fine woodworking tools. Production was moved to a large facility in 1859 called Hibernia Works in Sheffield, England. 1900 — By the early 1900s, W. Marples & Sons had expanded to a full-time provider of woodworking hand tools and was often referred to as the ‘Shamrock Brand’. 1963 — In 1963, the company was acquired by the Record Tool Company and the brand updated to ‘Record Marples’. IRWIN Tools:
IRWIN Tools has a long and storied history, stretching for more than a century and set against the backdrop of a young, ambitious nation. In 1885, Charles Irwin patented the Auger bit and, along with four business partners, formed the IRWIN Auger Bit Company. In 1924, William Petersen, a Danish immigrant, invented and patented VISE-GRIP Locking Pliers. Through innovation and a series of acquisitions, these two companies have now become IRWIN Tools. IRWIN Tools manufactures and distributes a broad line of hand tools and power tool accessories including JACK handsaws, RECORD clamping and locking tools, VISE-GRIP pliers and wrenches, JORAN drill bits, QUICK-GRIP clamping tools, MARPLES chisels and woodworking tools, and UNIBIT drill bits. Innovation:
Innovation is the hallmark of IRWIN. For more than 100 years it’s been an idea that has permeated the culture of our company and it continues to drive everything we do. Beginning in 1885 with development of the first IRWIN auger bit and progressing with the introduction of Vise-Grip locking tools, Blue Groove flat bits and Quick-Grip bar clamps, IRWIN has been at the forefront of the industry, creating better tools in a better way.
