The Jaguar XJ 220 became famous by its top speed of 350 km/h, a record held from 1992 to 1994. The emergence of the XJ220 is unusual as it goes back to the ideas and creativity of Jaguar employees. Some employees worked on innovative and original projects outside the framework of common commercial considerations. A working group called themselves “The Saturday Club” developed a “Concept Car” that was featured on the British Motor Show in 1988 and found great appeal to the public. From this first development work came out the Jaguar XJ 220, which was the first series vehicle to be launched in 1991. The lightweight and extremely powerful car has the performance characteristics of a real “top sports car” and is characterised by its aerodynamic design and its extremely modern lines for the time. International rock stars and wealthy businessmen were avid buyers of this prestigious vehicle.
