The sound of the AVn-48b is fat but focused with rich tonal complexity that the 6 special Alnico magnets impart to the sound. It has aggressive attitude without outstanding presence. This pickup has got punch and clout without hum. The plain strings are ‘sweet as’ with no spikey ice-pick and had a great twang factor. But the twang can turn easily to growl by bumping the volume up. The overall sound is clear, never muddy or veiled. These attributes combine to give it remarkable on-stage definition and punch without playing too loud. It beaks into crunch easily without any distortion gismos and cleans up nice when rolled back. It’s upper coil is wrapped with period-correct Ivory coloured cotton twine just like the original. The lower coil is wound on our amazing Patented H-Core (150 laminated steel plates) PS for those players who want this sound in a Strat(TM) our AVn-64b Strat pickup sounds pretty darn close.
