High intensity Sunspot: The Komodo Halogen Spot Lamp provides a high intensity sunspot for a basking spot within a terrarium. The special reflector lamp produces more intense infrared (IR) heat rays, and generates a hot white light to create a brighter, warmer day time atmosphere. Reptiles are essentially solar powered. They need infra red (IR) heat rays from the Sun and are attracted to it by bright light. The IR heat rays provide deep penetrating heat for efficient thermoregulation and metabolism, and offer less risk of skin burns. The lamp can be thermostatically controlled for safer use. Reptiles also need UVA light to both see and function properly. The Komodo Halogen Spot Lamp provides a good output of UVA rays to help stimulate appetite and the immune system. Halogen lamps are highly efficient, providing a longer life and less power consumption than conventional bulbs.
Other requirements: Most reptiles need UVB light rays as well as IR heat rays. UVB light provides them with the ability to produce vitamin D3, which is essential for healthy bones. The Halogen Spot Lamp provides no significant UVB light rays, but Komodo stocks a range of UVB lamps and fluorescent tubes in various UVB outputs to suit different species of reptile.
Safety: Before purchasing and installing any lighting for a reptile, ensure that the bulb specification is compatible with the reptile species and the light fitting.
