Best choice for daytime use: The Komodo Neodymium Daylight Spot Lamp is a broad spectrum incandescent bulb, providing essential IR and UVA heat and light rays for reptiles during the day. Reptiles are essentially solar powered. They need infra red (IR) heat rays from the Sun and are attracted to it by bright light. Incandescent lamps are a good source of brightly lit infra red heat for captive reptiles. The IR heat rays provide deep penetrating heat for less risk of skin burns. The lamp can be thermostatically controlled for safer use. Reptiles also need UVA light to both see and function properly. The Komodo Daylight lamp provides a moderate output of UVA rays to help stimulate appetite and the immune system. The Neodymium coating reduces any yellow colouring in the bulb to create a whiter daytime light, more natural to a reptiles’ native environment.
Other requirements: Use a softer, coloured lamp for night time use. Komodo recommends the Komodo Night Glow or Moonlight Bulb. Most reptiles need UVB light rays as well as IR heat rays. UVB light provides them with the ability to produce vitamin D3, which is essential for healthy bones. The Neodymium lamp provides no significant UVB light rays, but Komodo stocks a range of UVB lamps and fluorescent tubes in various UVB outputs to suit different species of reptile.
