The Kreg story began in 1986 when Craig Sommerfeld wanted to find an effective way of attaching dowelled face frames to a cabinet without using nails and putty. As a result, Craig designed and invented ‘Craig’s Jig’, which allowed him to attach the face frames from the inside of the cabinet where the joint would be hidden from view.
Encouraged by friends and co-workers, Craig built more jigs and demonstrated them at a woodworking show. He found an audience with no knowledge of the joining method he was promoting, but who were extremely interested in learning about a new way to build woodworking projects. Craig carried on building during the week and showing his products at weekends, then went on to expand the Kreg range to include tools for cutting, clamping, routing and measuring.
