Connect additional monitors to your Apple M1 device: HDMI and VGA The first generation of the Apple M1 SoC convinces in many respects. However, the chip quickly reaches its limits when connecting additional monitors. LMP Dual USB-C Adapter provides the solution. Dual adapter from LMP can be used with any generation of Mac with Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C), Intel or M1 ports, including M1 Pro and M1 Max. Up to 2 dual LMP adapters or 4 additional monitors (2 HDMI and 2 VGA) can work via USB-C ports or even USB-A (with an appropriate USB-C (f) to USB-A (m) adapter). In fact, the dual LMP adapter can also be installed on a USB-C or USB-A output port of a USB-C dock. This is made possible by the Silicon Motion video chipset and its driver and the fact that the video signal is transmitted via the USB protocol instead of the DP Altmode signal. Resolutions reach up to 4K at 30 Hz (HDMI) and Full HD (1920 × 1080 at 60 Hz) for VGA output. This means that the user can add no less than 4 additional monitors to the number that Apple specifies as the maximum number of external monitors. Then a first-generation M1 device can use a monitor via DP Altmode and 4 others by adding 2 LMP dual adapters (provided there are enough free USB-C or USB-A ports to connect the 2 LMP dual adapters). And with the latest MacBook Pro M1 Max you can use as many as 8 external monitors, each showing an independent image (extended mode). The same applies to any Mac with Intel processors and Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports. Examples: MacBook Air M1 Number of external monitors specified by Apple (via DP Altmode, e.g. via HDMI of a mini USB-C LMP Dock): 1 monitor + 2 LMP Dual adapters (with driver, via USB protocol) each with 1 VGA ( 1080p) + 1 HDMI monitor (4K@30 Hz): 4 monitors Maximum total 5 external monitors (of which 2 to be connected via VGA and 2 via HDMI). The two dual USB-C LMP adapters can be connected directly to the Thunderbolt (USB-C) port on the MacBook Air OR to a USB port on a USB-C dock (e.g. to the USB-C port of the LMP USB-C mini dock, as this port allows power delivery and data transfer via USB protocol). Note: The USB-C port of the USB-C LMP travel dock is only capable of providing power, so the LMP dual USB-C adapter cannot be directly connected to the present USB-C port, but should be installed on a USB 3.0 port that uses a USB-A (m) to USB-C (f) adapter. MacBook Pro M1 MaxNumber external monitors specified by Apple (via DP Altmode): 4 monitors + 2x dual USB-C LMP adapters with max. 4 external monitorsTotal max. 8 external monitors, of which 2x must be connected via VGA, 2x via HDMI.
