Reverb gives you an artificial feel to play in an environment or space if you want, and is often used to give your sound a bigger, more vibrant sound. Aggressive use of reverb can give you a whole new sound, but can also tend to blur the sound, which is why a dry/wet control is often used to mix the clean/direct signal with the reverb sound.
