For those who like a pair of binoculars to appear as fashionable as they are practical, there is the Olympus RC II series. This pocket-sized 10×21 RC II model features compact dimensions and offers easy handling for everyday general use, whilst excelling when used for bird watching, camping or hiking, or travelling and touring.
These ultra portable roof prism type binos are fashioned using high quality optics, feature multi-coated lenses for maximum brightness and contrast, plus boast the added worry-free feature of UV (ultraviolet) protection. Added to the enticing mix are precisely ground high index prisms made of brightness-enhancing barium crown glass (Bak-4) to ensure clarity and brightness to the very edge of the field of view.
Peace of mind and years of pleasure are further guaranteed thanks to a 25-year European warranty as standard.
This particular model offers 10x magnification and a 21mm objective lens diameter. As it sounds, 10x magnification produces an image that appears as if the user were ten times closer to their subject, while the objective lens diameter refers to how much light can be gathered to form that image. For daytime use a lens diameter of 21 to 25mm is ideal.
Also worth taking note of is the exit pupil. Here that is 2.1mm, which for 10×21 binoculars is arrived at via 21 divided by 10 = 2.1 exit pupil in mm, so in line with the 2-3mm which is generally thought of as being suitable for daylight use. Another thing to take into account is the field of view, which here is 89 metres, and is defined as the width of the viewable field at a distance of 1000m from the point of observation. Closest focusing distance is 3 metres.
Offering a 10x magnification to bring faraway points of interest that much closer plus a 21mm objective lens diameter, the Olympus 10×21 RC II Binoculars deliver optimum quality from the optics provided.
Fast and easy focusing is provided courtesy of a large, centrally placed knob. The 10×21 RC II model further sports a long 9.5mm eye relief for extra comfort, plus diopter adjustment to allow them to be attuned to an individual’s eyesight for comfortable viewing without glasses.
Boasting a tactile and ergonomic design and weighing 185g, the Olympus 10×21 RC II measurements are a manageable 106x88x38mm, while the package includes a neck strap, case and protective lens covers.
In summary, with a lens configuration of 5 elements in 3 groups, and a 9.5 mm eye relief, the field of view at 1000m is 89m. The actual field of view is 5.1° while the apparent angle of view is 50°.
Adorned with a sophisticated black finish, these are also binoculars that will repay your original investment with years of good service. A case in point: a 25-year warranty is included with any purchase.
