Commercial director Max Carlyle (Wesley Snipes) is on a business trip to New York when he meets Karen (Nastassja Kinski). Although both are married, they cannot resist their mutual attraction, and end up spending a night of passion together. Mike returns to his wife and two children, but becomes distant from them as he cannot rid himself of the memory of Karen. A year later, Max flies to the hospital bedside of his friend, Charlie (Robert Downey Jr), only to discover that Charlie’s brother is married to Karen.
