Masters At Work – Our Time Is Coming – CD
It’s only just over a decade since Louis Vega and Kenny “Dope” Gonzales first collaborated under the Masters moniker, but in dance music that constitutes a life’s work. Strange then perhaps, with a suitably long list of accolades under their belt, that the duo should choose 2002 to release an album (their third) titled Our Time is Coming. As we all know, their time came with the onslaught of “US garage”–and never stopped coming as far as house-heads the world over are concerned. And fear not, there are few surprises here, just plenty of the quality tunage you’d expect. The soca soaked “Work”, swoon-some strains of “Latin Lover” and Afro-beats of “Expensive”, MAW’s tribute to Fela Kuti, are all familiar friends, while the remaining 12 tracks make for unadulterated toe-tapping, head-nodding pleasure. –Ruby Tuesday
