When George Salter took over from his uncle in 1825, the company established a large manufacturing site and shop in West Bromwich, producing a wide variety of scales, including the UK’s first ever bathroom scale. For 250 years, the company has taken pride at being at the forefront of technological developments in the weighing category and has pioneered many areas, including coin-operated scales for use by the general public as well as infant weighing scales.
