Snooky Pryor was one of the very first to record what came to be known as the postwar Chicago blues sound. He is also credited as being a pioneer of the amplified harmonica. On this engaging set of heartfelt “true blues”, Snooky entertains with the same fire and conviction as he did when he helped create that golden age of Chicago blues.
Shake My Hand features some of Snooky’s newer songs, as well as swinging versions of Hank Ballard’s “Work With Me Annie”, Sleepy John Estes’ “Someday Baby”, and a brilliant reprise of Snooky’s own classic “Telephone Blues”.
“(Pryor’s) deep-chested vocals and intuitive understanding of the driving impetus that is the traditional Chicago blues shuffle combine with his expressive, Rice Miller-influenced harmonica style to create a sound that’s exhilarating, well-crafted, and as entertaining as any you’ll find in the blues.” – David Whiteis, Chicago Reader
