The Starrett 264B Center Punch measures 3-1/4″ long and has a 3/8″ thick square shank with a 5/64″ (2mm) diameter tapered tip. The punch has a hardened steel shaft for strength and a hardened steel tip for wear resistance. The shaft is knurled for the handle and has a square shape to prevent it from rolling when placed on a work surface. Punches make small dimples in a workpiece to guide a drill. Manual punches have a metal shaft with tip and are usually used with a ball hammer to mark the material. The automatic center punches have an internal spring mechanism that allows them to mark the material without using a hammer, leaving one hand free to stabilize the work. The L.S.
