Teachers A Class Soundtrack – Various – CD
The soundtrack to Channel 4’s cutting edge drama series Teachers–like the soundtracks to most of Channel 4’s “cutting edge” drama series–is packed full of songs guaranteed to appeal to today’s “hip” twenty-to-thirtysomethings. Except that it isn’t quite as hip as it thinks it is. Although it has more than its share of modern and left-field classics (dEUS’s “Little Arithmetics”, Doves’ “Catch the Sun” and Mr Scruff’s “Get a Move On”, to name but three), it also has a few too many tracks by Britpops second and third stringers. Shed Seven’s “She Left Me on Friday” and the Supernaturals’ “The Day Before Yesterday’s Man” sound hopelessly dated only a few years after their original release, while Mover’s “Move Over” and the Dandys’ “I Wanna Be Like You” are utterly forgettable. Still, one can never hear great tracks like Feeder’s “Buck Rogers” and Faithless’s “Insomnia” too often. –Robert Burrow
