Malian musician Vieux Kanté was a master of the kamale n goni (youth harp), an instrument only invented in the 1960s. He modified it from its original 6 to 12 strings and his fame spread across the Wassoulou region as one of the most dynamic and accomplished solo players in the country. Rumours of a cassette recording with his own group were soon followed by his death from a sudden illness. But finally this lone recording session is now available on CD
