TO USE: 1. Soak the waterstone for around 10 minutes and fit in silicone base on a firm steady surface. It’s normal for a powdery slurry to appear. Don’t wash this away as it is a honing/polishing compound. If it dries sprinkle on more water 2. If the knife’s blunt use the 1000 grit side first to achieve a good edge. Hold at around a 20 degree angle or use the guide (hint, the back of the blade should come halfway up your thumb when it is resting on the stone). Move back and forth smoothly until you achieve the desired result on both sides – around 15 minutes. This side is only used occasionally 3. Use the 6000 grit side to polish your knife with slightly less pressure. Keep polishing until you achieve a superfine polished finish. Frequent use will maintain a sharp edge 4. Use the whole surface. Constant use of the same area will cause dips. Turn the stone around frequently and go to the edges. If this happens you can use the flattening stone to make it flat again 5. After sharpening, rinse and dry 6. Place in a safe, dry place, out of the reach of children. Avoid dropping DID YOU KNOW? Is it whet stone, whetstone, wetstone or wet stone? It is actually whetstone. The word “whet” means to sharpen. So you can have whetstones that use oil or water. But feel free to call it what you wish! Can it be used with oil? Yes most people use water which is almost free, clean and environmentally friendly. However, you could use oil as the lubricant, though once oil is used you can’t go back to water as the oil will not allow the water to sink in and do its jobFLATTENING STONE Using a graphite pencil, make a criss cross pattern on the wet stone then rub with the flattening stone until the pencil marks disappear which means the surface will have been returned to flat Contents: 1 x sharpening stone 1000/6000 grit, 1 x bamboo base, 1 x flattening stone, 1 knife guide, 2 x silicone rubber bases
