Pocahontas became a mediator between the tribes of the Virginia Algonkin and the English colonists, as a favourite daughter of an Indian chief. It forms the historical core of a history myth about the supposedly peaceful settlement of North America by the Europeans. In the Disney film of the same name, Pocahontas learns to listen to her inner voice and follow the ‘play of colours of the wind’ with the help of her wise consultant, Grandmother Willow. Because together with her animal friends, she must prevent a seemingly inevitable battle between two peoples.
