Daruma is the Doll of Purposes, a Japanese good luck charm. Made from papier mache, it is a representation of monk Bodhidharma, founder of Zen Buddhism. Legend says this enlightened after meditating in a cave for 9 years but dropped his arms and legs for atrophy. Hence the quirky shape of Daruma.
