It was the Other Ranks’ equivalent to the Distinguished Service Cross. The obverse bears the crowned effigy of the reigning monarch. The reverse has the inscription ‘FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE’ in three lines, within a laurel wreath surmounted by an Imperial crown.
