A brief introduction to French valves
The French valve (Presta/Presta valve) is mainly used on road bikes or mountain bikes of medium to upper class.
This type of valve consists of a brass body with external thread, a shielded valve screw, a valve cover and a nut that holds the valve to the rim.
Advantages of French valves (Presta) compared to American valves (Schrader).
The French valve has a smaller hole required for the valve to pass through the rim than the American valve, improving the structural integrity of the rim.
It is also available in different valve lengths to suit the different heights of the rim frames.
The pressure in it is also easier to precisely adjust. To allow the air to escape from the tyre, simply unscrew the valve stem and press it down to deflate.
Some French valves are also removable. This also means that the spool can be replaced if it is bent and not the entire hose needs to be replaced.
Precautions when using a French valve.
To inflate the valve stem must also be unscrewed.
Higher requirements for the pump. Some pumps have heads that do not fit well into the valve, and the valve stem on the valve may be deformed if the valve is accidentally inserted crooked when inflating.
A French pump or pump compatible with French valves is required. If none, you need a special Presta Schrader conversion head.
