[General information] Yame handmade washi is a traditional craft produced in Yame, Fukuoka Prefecture. It is made mainly from long-fibre kozo paper, which is unique to this region, and is an elegant washi characterised by a good pull and a strong back not seen in other production areas. It is highly valued as washi for hanging scrolls, shoji paper and fusuma paper. Yame handmade washi, which uses only natural materials and is particular about the processing of raw materials, has a reputation for being resistant to deterioration and discolouration and is used for delicate work such as restoring cultural properties and backing hanging scrolls. Yame handmade washi is composed of plant fibres and is harmless to the human body. [Notes.] Colours may differ from the actual product due to the colouring of the monitor.
