- HOW IS A DOG CONE MEASURED Cone for dogs sizes vary based on the size and face shape of the dog. Ideally you want the cone to extend a couple of inches beyond your dog’s nose. Most cones are sized on the neck circumference. Use a fabric tape measure to measure around the base of your dogs neck. Make sure you can fit two fingers between your neck and the tape measure to avoid the cone fitting to tightly.
