LOCTITE SI 5331 – Thread sealant for plastic piping
Loctite SI 5331 is ideal as a thread sealant for various forms of water pipe insulation. The universal thread sealant is gel and can be used to seal hot and cold water-bearing plastic and metal threads and fittings, e.g. to secure plastic pipelines in industrial, agricultural or sewage systems. The sealant is single-component, so no mixing is necessary. It cures through humidity exposure at ambient temperatures to form a low-strength, permanently elastic seal which is effective against both cold and hot water. The low strength of the gasket is maintained at temperatures up to 150°C. In addition, the joints are protected against vibration loads. Based on acetoxy silicone, the silicone is white and has a paste-like consistency. LOCTITE SI 5331 is approved for use in drinking water systems*, DGVW approved** and NSF category P1 approved*** for use as a food processing sealant in areas where contact with food is not possible.
Apply the sealant to the desired threaded parts (the parts may be as supplied or cleaned with a damp cloth or paper towel before application). The product should be applied to both male and female threads. To ensure an even distribution, brush down to the base of the thread. For use in drinking water installations, allow thread sealant to cure for 96 hours at 20 to 23°C before use.
