Nefertete was the main grinder of the king (Pharaos) Echnaton and lived in the 14th century BC. The queen became known by the bust of limestone and plaster exhibited in the Egyptian museum in the north wing of the New Museum (Museum Island) in Berlin.
For many years, the potsdamer artist Alex Agwanjan has lovingly hand-crafted a wide range of sculptures, reliefs and cans from the materials cellulose or plaster. It places special emphasis on the clean representation of the finest details, which is possible especially thanks to the material cellane.
Zellan is a synthetic, inorganic moulding compound that has a porcelain-like structure in the cured state. The material is easy to work with like plaster, can be painted or coloured before use and requires no drying or burning to harden. Cellane is about twice as hard as plaster and also significantly heavier. The use of cellane allows a very high image accuracy and the finest details representation. The material has a bright, porcelain-like sound after tapping it. In contrast to the light grey plaster cellane is pure white.
All objects made of cellan are lovingly hand-patinated and polished by the artist.
