The water stays in the system and the handle pump provides reliable water from the first lift. Check valve in the swimming pool: when using sand filter systems at the pool, it is also often helpful to secure the duct to the (only temporary) filter pump by means of a check valve. This is the case when the filter pump is above the water surface (for example partially or fully recessed pools). This also ensures that the water stops in the duct, the pump draws no air and is therefore always ready to use.
