For thousands of years, people have been trying to determine the time with astronomical instruments through the state of the sun in the sky. Even today in the age of atomic watches, sundials with their natural and simple functional principle exert a special fascination on us. SOLEmio is a novel unusual sundial based on the principle of light refraction so not on shadow throw or reflection like most conventional sundials. Like a lens, the body collects the light in a burn spot that travels over the cylinder during the day. Using complex maths programs and powerful computers, we have succeeded in printing this cylinder with the parts of the earth and the sunpaths so that when the sundial is aligned correctly. With some practice, it is even possible to determine the date, the state of the sun and the directions.
